LG Installs Solar-Powered Borehole in Kano Community, Boosting Clean Water Access

In an effort to address the critical challenge of clean water access, LG Electronics has commissioned a solar-powered borehole for the Kawaji Saunar MamaU community in Nassarawa Local Government, Kano State, Nigeria. The project, part of LG’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to promote sustainable development and improve living conditions for underserved populations.

For years, residents in rural areas of Kano have struggled to access safe drinking water, often traveling long distances to unreliable water sources. The new solar-powered borehole is expected to transform this situation by providing a consistent and sustainable water supply directly within the community.

The commissioning event brought together LG representatives, local leaders, and community members to celebrate the project’s completion. The ceremony emphasized the importance of clean water access and demonstrated how corporate-community collaborations can effectively address pressing local needs.

A standout feature of the borehole is its use of solar energy. Unlike conventional systems that rely on electricity or manual labor, this solar-powered solution taps into Kano’s abundant sunlight to pump water from underground sources. This approach ensures a reliable water supply while minimizing operational expenses.

The borehole is fitted with an advanced purification system, guaranteeing that the water meets safe drinking standards. This initiative is set to benefit hundreds of households, reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases and enhancing the overall health of the community.

Local leaders and residents expressed their appreciation for LG’s contribution. Alhaji Kabir Tijjani Hashim, Turakin Kano and District Head of Kawaji Saunar, stated, "This project is a lifeline for our community. Previously, we faced daily hardships to secure clean water. Now, thanks to LG, we have a sustainable solution right here in our community."

As climate change and water scarcity continue to pose significant challenges, solar-powered boreholes offer a forward-thinking solution that addresses immediate needs while promoting long-term sustainability.

Encouraged by the success of this initiative, LG has signaled its intention to explore similar projects in other communities. Ongoing discussions are aimed at identifying additional regions that could benefit from solar-powered water solutions.

As the residents of Kawaji Sauna MamaU begin to experience the advantages of their new borehole, this project stands as a powerful testament to the potential of collaboration between the private sector and local communities in driving positive change.

With sustained efforts from corporations like LG, the dream of universal access to clean water in Nigeria is becoming a tangible reality.
