MTN Nigeria Targets N50 Billion in Debt Market for Working Capital Boost

MTN Nigeria Plc is set to raise up to N50 billion through Series 15 and 16 commercial paper issuance as part of its N250 billion commercial paper program. The funds will support short-term working capital needs and diversify the company’s financing options.

In a regulatory filing, MTN Nigeria informed the Nigerian Exchange about the planned issuance, marking its third round of commercial paper sales this year following foreign exchange pressures that impacted its shareholders’ equity.

“The issuance is part of a strategy to diversify financing options, with proceeds deployed to support short-term working capital requirements,” the company stated.

Earlier this month, MTN Nigeria successfully raised N72.18 billion from Series 13 and 14 commercial paper sales, significantly exceeding its initial target of N50 billion due to 144% oversubscription. This follows a similar N75 billion raised in the debt market last month, underlining investor confidence in the telecommunications giant.

The additional funding highlights MTN Nigeria’s proactive approach to addressing liquidity needs while maintaining its position as a leading player in the telecom sector.
