MTN Extends CEO Ralph Mupita’s Tenure Until 2030

MTN Group’s board of directors has extended CEO Ralph Mupita’s contract by five years, ensuring his leadership until August 2030. Initially set to expire in September 2024, the renewed agreement reinforces Mupita's role during a period of global and regional uncertainties.

MTN, Africa’s largest telecommunications operator by subscriber base, has not disclosed the specific terms of the extension.

In a statement to investors, MTN Group chairman Mcebisi Jonas highlighted the strategic importance of the move, saying, “The extension of Ralph’s tenure will provide important continuity during a period of significant global and regional uncertainty.”

Jonas elaborated on the complexities the company faces, noting, “It will allow MTN to effectively navigate the complex geopolitical dynamics, market volatility, and macroeconomic challenges affecting the business.”

He further highlighted the strategic benefits of this decision, saying, “Additionally, it will ensure that the company remains focused on its strategic priorities and continues to deliver on its commitments to shareholders and broader stakeholders.”
