TikTok Deletes 360,000 Kenyan Videos in Major Safety Crackdown

TikTok recently removed over 360,000 videos in Kenya that breached its community guidelines, reinforcing its commitment to user safety as part of the platform’s Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report. This proactive sweep reflects TikTok’s strategy to maintain a secure environment for its expanding Kenyan user base.

Though the removed videos account for only 0.3% of all uploads in Kenya for the quarter, TikTok’s enforcement was notably swift: 99.1% of these violative videos were detected and deleted proactively before user reports, with 95% removed within 24 hours of posting.

In addition to video content, TikTok also took action on user accounts. More than 60,000 accounts were banned in Kenya for rule violations, including 57,262 accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13, aligning with the platform’s safety measures for young users.

This Kenyan cleanup is part of a wider effort across Africa, where TikTok recently removed a total of 11.8 million videos from nine other countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, and South Africa.
