In a bold step to fast-track Nigeria’s ambitious “3 Million Technical Talent” (3MTT) initiative, the federal government has appointed a distinguished advisory committee composed of renowned figures in the technology sector. This committee, led by Emeka Afigbo, Senior Director of Developer Success at Okta, will shape the program’s strategic direction, focusing on equipping three million Nigerians with the digital skills needed to thrive in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy and compete on the global stage.
Months after launching the 3MTT initiative with an inaugural cohort of 30,000 participants, the federal government established this advisory body to ensure the program remains effective, adaptive, and aligned with both local and global industry demands. The committee will work on refining the curriculum, enhancing delivery models, and setting performance standards that meet the needs of today’s tech-driven job market.
Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, underscored the committee’s role in bridging government initiatives with real-world expertise, positioning Nigeria as a key player in the global tech talent pool. He emphasized that with the right support, Nigeria could become a leading exporter of tech talent, helping fulfill the nation’s “Renewed Hope” agenda for economic growth through digital transformation.
Each committee member brings unique expertise that will contribute to the program’s different aspects:
Emeka Afigbo (Chair): A former leader at Meta and Google, Afigbo will leverage his background in developer success and community building to cultivate a robust ecosystem for Nigerian developers.
Iyinoluwa Aboyeji: Co-founder of Andela and Flutterwave, Aboyeji’s experience in fostering tech ecosystems will shape the program's appeal and long-term vision for young Nigerian professionals.
Ope Bukola: Known for her work in education technology, Bukola will focus on scaling tech education, advising on curriculum design and training methods that align with global standards.
Oji Udezue: Former Chief Product Officer at Typeform, Calendly, and Twitter, Udezue’s insights into product strategy will keep the 3MTT program forward-thinking and impactful.
Joy Omoregie: Her expertise in go-to-market strategies for emerging markets will help align 3MTT training with real-world industry demands as Nigeria’s tech sector matures.
Bola Lawal: With a background in digital finance, Lawal will help develop training that addresses current job market needs, emphasizing practical, business-relevant skills.
Amal Hassan: CEO of Outsource Global, Hassan’s knowledge in outsourcing and job creation will be instrumental in helping 3MTT graduates secure employment both locally and abroad.
Since its launch, the 3MTT initiative has expanded, training 270,000 additional participants in its second phase. Under the committee’s guidance, each phase will integrate feedback, refine training approaches, and forge partnerships with educational institutions, tech companies, and government bodies to increase the program’s impact.
The training offers a diverse range of in-demand skills, including software development, data analysis, digital marketing, UX/UI design, project management, and cloud computing. With the advisory committee’s expertise, the 3MTT program aims to not only prepare participants for traditional tech roles but also equip them with digital skills for broader applications, creating opportunities across multiple sectors and enhancing employability in an evolving job market.
