Apple Set to Acquire Popular Image Editing App Developer, Pixelmator

Apple has announced plans to acquire Pixelmator, the celebrated image editing company known for its sophisticated yet user-friendly applications. In a recent blog post, the Pixelmator Team confirmed the acquisition, assuring users that no major changes will be made to its suite of apps, including Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator, as the acquisition undergoes regulatory review.

Founded 17 years ago in Vilnius, Lithuania, Pixelmator has gained a reputation for delivering high-quality, Apple-compatible editing tools that focus on design, ease of use, and performance. Reflecting on the acquisition, Pixelmator’s founders expressed their excitement: “Joining Apple will allow us to bring our products to an even wider audience and deepen our impact on the global creative community.”

Pixelmator Pro, described as a professional yet approachable image editor, and Photomator, an advanced photo editing tool for Apple devices, have gained popularity for their AI-powered features, including background removal and Super Resolution.

Though Apple frequently acquires companies, it rarely announces such deals publicly. Recent notable acquisitions include Dark Sky in 2020, which strengthened Apple’s weather app, and Workflow in 2017, which evolved into the Shortcuts app. Pixelmator’s integration with Apple promises to further enhance the creative possibilities for users across the Apple ecosystem.
