IBM Unveils Granite 3.0: High-Performance AI Models Built for Business Innovation

IBM has launched Granite 3.0, its most advanced suite of AI models to date, built to drive top-tier performance for businesses. Granite 3.0, IBM’s latest third-generation language model family, excels in both industry and academic benchmarks, standing out for its powerful performance, transparency, and safety, often matching or outperforming comparable models from other leading providers.

In line with IBM’s commitment to open-source AI, Granite 3.0 is released under the permissive Apache 2.0 license, providing unprecedented flexibility and autonomy to enterprises. This launch underscores IBM’s dedication to transparency and safety in AI, with the Granite 3.0 technical report and responsible use guide detailing model training, data handling, and benchmark results.

Granite 3.0: Leading in AI Performance

With over 12 trillion tokens drawn from 12 natural languages and 116 programming languages, Granite 3.0’s models leverage an innovative two-stage training method. Supported by thousands of data experiments, this approach has honed IBM's models for exceptional performance across a wide range of benchmarks. Additionally, IBM’s Granite Time Series models have been enhanced, now trained on three times more data, showcasing substantial improvements on time series analysis benchmarks.

Introducing Granite Guardian 3.0: Setting New Standards for Responsible AI

IBM also introduced Granite Guardian 3.0, a new family of models designed to help developers establish robust safety protocols. Granite Guardian models can screen user prompts and responses to detect risks, including social bias, hate, toxicity, and profanity, as well as RAG-specific factors like context relevance and groundedness, making it one of the most comprehensive safety solutions on the market.

From Assistants to Agents: The Future of Enterprise AI

IBM continues to push the boundaries of enterprise AI with tools that support the transition from basic assistants to self-directed agents capable of handling complex tasks. IBM’s suite includes watsonx Orchestrate, a low-code tool for custom AI assistant development, alongside pre-built solutions tailored to functions like HR, sales, and marketing.

The upcoming release of watsonx Code Assistant, powered by Granite models, will offer enhanced coding support across major programming languages, including advanced modernization tools for Enterprise Java Applications.

Enhancing IBM Consulting Advantage with Granite 3.0 AI Models

IBM’s AI-powered consulting platform, IBM Consulting Advantage, will now incorporate Granite 3.0 as its default model, supporting IBM’s 160,000 consultants with AI-driven solutions to enhance client outcomes. The platform also introduces IBM Consulting Advantage for Cloud Transformation and Management and IBM Consulting Advantage for Business Operations, offering specialized AI agents and applications that streamline cloud transformation, quality engineering, and operational improvements across finance, HR, and procurement domains.

Granite 3.0 exemplifies IBM’s commitment to pioneering advanced AI for enterprise needs, promoting a future of more intelligent, efficient, and responsible business solutions.
