Sahara Group, a leading energy and infrastructure conglomerate, has joined forces with Air France-KLM to champion sustainable air travel through its latest investment in the airline’s Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) program. This collaboration will result in the offset of 20 tons of CO2, contributing significantly to global efforts to combat climate change.
Facilitated by Sahara Energy International, a Geneva-based affiliate, the partnership has earned Sahara Group certification as an official partner of Air France-KLM’s corporate SAF program. This underscores Sahara’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and decarbonization initiatives.
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), made from renewable sources like waste oils and agricultural residues, reduces emissions by at least 75% compared to traditional jet fuel. This partnership allows both companies to contribute to greener aviation practices and reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.
Kola Motajo, Director at Sahara Group, emphasized that investing in SAF aligns with Sahara’s broader sustainability goals. "Our partnership with Air France-KLM is a step toward reducing aviation emissions and supporting the future of sustainable aviation," he said.
Air France-KLM’s Account Manager, Yanis Yazbek, praised Sahara Group’s commitment, calling the company a pioneer in aviation decarbonization. “Sahara Group’s investment in SAF demonstrates how critical partnerships like this can drive innovation and help make air travel greener,” Yazbek added.
Reinforcing the uniqueness of the partnership, Ejiro Gray, Director of Governance and Sustainability, remarked, “Sustainability is at the core of our operations, and this initiative aligns with our quest to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2060. By supporting the SAF program, we are taking a significant step towards achieving a cleaner and greener future.”

Globally, the aviation industry is responsible for approximately 2.5% of total CO2 emissions. The adoption of SAF is a critical step towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, a goal supported by many airlines and industry stakeholders. It is estimated that with increased investment, 500 million metric tons of SAF could be produced annually from advanced and waste feedstock by 2030.
