NBA Africa Unveils Finalists for Triple-Double Startup Accelerator Demo Day in New York

NBA Africa has announced the selection of 10 startups from seven African countries to pitch their innovative solutions at the Triple-Double Startup Accelerator Demo Day, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25, at NBA headquarters in New York City. This event, part of the "Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator" initiative launched in April 2024, aims to bolster Africa’s tech ecosystem and nurture the continent’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

The finalists will present their products to a panel of international industry leaders, who will select four winning startups to receive financial backing and mentorship. These startups will also participate in workshops and development programs facilitated by NBA Africa and its partners. The competing companies include:

Backrest (Rwanda): A wearable tech solution offering cashless payments at events via wristbands.

Buzza (Nigeria): A digital platform helping sports organisations transition to online operations and revenue growth.

Festival Coins (Nigeria): A customisable no-code event registration and ticketing platform for Nigeria and Ghana.

Gara (Côte d’Ivoire): A pan-African gaming and comics platform promoting local entertainment content.

HustleSasa (Kenya): A live event management service supporting payment processing, merchandise sales, and more.

Naemo Global (Nigeria): A scouting platform using AI and data analytics to identify football talent across Africa.

Power to Girls Foundation (Ghana): A mentorship platform offering educational resources and support for girls and young women.

Salubata (Nigeria): A company producing eco-friendly modular shoes made from recycled plastic waste.

UBR VR (Egypt): A VR provider offering immersive, culturally relevant virtual reality experiences.

Vambo Technologies (South Africa): A digital platform using AI to provide real-time translation and language learning, promoting digital inclusion.

“We are incredibly inspired by the talent and innovation demonstrated by these startups,” said NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi. “The finalists will showcase groundbreaking solutions that promise to elevate Africa’s sports and creative industries."

Operated by ALX Ventures, the Triple-Double Startup Accelerator supports early-stage African startups focused on event management, youth development, AI, and digital marketing. The winners will be announced at Demo Day and awarded resources to accelerate their growth.
