Friedkin Group Nears Everton Takeover After Agreement with Farhad Moshiri’s Holding Company

The Friedkin Group, led by US billionaire Dan Friedkin, is on the verge of acquiring a majority stake in Everton FC after reaching an agreement with current majority owner Farhad Moshiri. Friedkin’s group will take control of the Merseyside club, pending approval from the Football Association, Premier League, and Financial Conduct Authority. Friedkin also owns Italian club AS Roma.

This deal marks a significant step towards resolving Everton’s long-standing uncertainty over ownership. The Friedkin Group has agreed to purchase Moshiri’s 94% stake, bringing an end to months of speculation.

Dan Friedkin, initially hesitant after stepping back from talks earlier this summer, has made a renewed bid, outpacing American businessman John Textor, co-owner of Crystal Palace, who had also been pursuing the acquisition.

The transaction still requires regulatory approval but, once cleared, The Friedkin Group will assume ownership via Moshiri’s Blue Heaven Holdings.

“We are delighted to have reached an agreement to take over this historic football club,” said a Friedkin Group spokesperson. “We are focused on securing the necessary approvals and are eager to bring stability to Everton. We also aim to support the club's future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.”

Everton has faced financial struggles recently, including two points deductions last season due to violations of Premier League Financial Fair Play regulations. However, the potential new ownership brings hope of a fresh start.

A previous takeover attempt by 777 Partners fell through earlier this year, leading to negotiations with the Friedkin Group. After initially pulling out in July, the group has now returned to finalize the deal, outmaneuvering Textor, whose bid was complicated by his need to sell his 45% stake in Crystal Palace.
