Bolt Enhances Driver App with Speech-to-Text Chat Translation Feature

Bolt has introduced a new feature in its Driver App that allows speech-to-text translation for chat messages. This upgrade enables drivers to dictate messages instead of typing them, with the app automatically converting spoken words into text. The message is then sent to passengers as a standard chat message, streamlining communication between drivers and riders.

To use this feature, drivers simply tap the microphone icon in the chat, grant the app permission to access the phone’s microphone, dictate their message, review and edit it if necessary, and then send it to the rider.

Initially available on Android devices, this translation feature is particularly beneficial for local drivers interacting with tourists who may not share a common language. Bolt, which operates in over 50 markets worldwide, continues to enhance communication tools within the app, including in-app calls, chat messages, and language programs designed to overcome language barriers.

This update is part of a series of recent improvements to the Driver App, such as the "Driver Compliments" feature, which highlights exceptional service by sharing positive feedback and ratings from customers, further motivating drivers.

Yahaya Mohammed, Country Manager at Bolt said: “At Bolt, we know how important it is to have quick and effective communication between driver partners and riders. With this upgrade, we enable driver-partners in Nigeria to communicate more easily and swiftly with our riders. It’s one of a number of ways we support a high-quality platform through quick and easy communication between driver partners and riders, including in-app calls, chat messages, and language programmes aimed at helping bridge language barriers.”
