Meta Launches AI Chatbot Feature on WhatsApp and Facebook in Nigeria, SA, 5 Other African Countries

Following its successful integration of conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot, Meta AI, into WhatsApp in India, Meta has now introduced the new feature to users in Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Powered by Llama 3 technology, the innovative chatbot is now available on Android and iOS devices at no cost.

BrandArena gathered that the Meta AI icon is now in the search box of both WhatsApp and Facebook apps.

In a statement issued by Meta, the deployment of this AI assistant in English aims to enrich connections and equip millions of Africans with tools to enhance creativity, expressiveness, and productivity.

Meta AI's capabilities span across the Meta ecosystem, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, enabling users to perform tasks, gain knowledge, nurture creativity, and engage with meaningful content seamlessly. Whether browsing feeds, chatting, or searching, Meta AI seamlessly integrates into the apps, allowing users to access real-time information and complete tasks without leaving the platform.

Mark Zuckerberg, in a recent post, expressed Meta's ambition to develop the world's leading AI, with Meta AI being hailed as one of the most intelligent AI assistants available for free use. To enhance its capabilities further, Meta AI now incorporates real-time knowledge from Google and Bing directly into its responses, facilitating smoother user experiences across Meta's suite of apps.

With innovative features like image animation, style iteration, and GIF creation, Meta AI empowers users to unleash their creativity and share dynamic content with friends in exciting ways. Additionally, users can access Meta AI's services on the website "meta.ai," where they can seek assistance, log in to save conversation history, sync with Messenger, generate images, and more.

The expansion of Meta AI into Nigeria, South Africa, and other African countries underscores Meta's commitment to democratizing access to advanced AI technologies, fostering connectivity, and empowering users across the continent.
