A22 Sports Management, a group established to facilitate the formation of the European Super League, has publicly disclosed a letter sent to UEFA, urging an immediate halt to what they claim is anticompetitive behavior.
The decision to share the letter on social media platform X followed A22's assertion that UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin had mischaracterized their demand for compliance with EU rules and court rulings during a speech at the Spobis sports business congress in Hamburg.
In the letter, dispatched on Tuesday, A22 accuses UEFA of engaging in anticompetitive practices since April 2021. Allegations include the denigration of A22's reputation and purported threats issued to European clubs to dissuade them from participating in projects involving A22.
Despite a December ruling by the European Court of Justice, which declared that UEFA and FIFA violated EU law by obstructing the creation of a Super League, A22 asserts that UEFA persists in its alleged anticompetitive actions.
The letter emphatically demands that UEFA and its executives immediately desist from any anticompetitive actions against A22, its business initiatives, partners, and directors. A22 further instructs affiliated third parties associated with UEFA to adhere to the same cessation. The public release of the letter signals a heightened level of contention between A22 Sports Management and UEFA, raising questions about the ongoing dynamics within European football governance.
