Strategic communications practitioner, Jerry Sawyerr has been named Chief Marketing Officer at The Alternative Bank.
With over 20 years of relevant expertise in the fields of technology, FMCG, advocacy, government relations, social impact, media relations, and marketing, Sawyerr would lead the bank's marketing and strategic communication strategy as it aims to improve market penetration.
The Alternative Bank, Nigeria's newest financial services provider, launched as the country's first synchronised multi-city brand, with a presence in three key cities - Lagos, Abuja, and Kano.
Jerry was the General Manager of Redwood Consulting until his recent appointment. He formerly served as Country Director for Weber Shandwick in Nigeria. He built a solid network throughout West and East Africa, considerably expanding the firm.
Sawyerr also worked directly with Nigeria’s former Minister for Agriculture, Akinwunmi Adesina, to provide communications and media relations support for the ministry’s Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA) by positioning both Nigeria’s agricultural sector and the Minister’s leadership to a global audience. He was involved in the African Union drive, through its CAAPD initiative, to help African countries reach a higher path of economic growth through agriculture-led development. He led several high-level campaigns for UNICEF, the United Nations Foundation, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
He provided strategic directions in Nigeria for Save the Children, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, Rockefeller Foundation, and African Innovation Foundation. Jerry is a media expert, having trained top executives from Mastercard, Ericsson, Eaton, LBS, Microsoft, First Bank, CBN, and others.
