Clubhouse, a social app that surged during the pandemic, is making a comeback. The app which became popular as a communal audio rooms is reinventing itself "to be more like a messaging app" with new voice-only group conversations known as "chats."
The audio-based software became well known for conducting "podcast-style conversations," which frequently focused on networking, professional development, and fresh ideas.
Clubhouse founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth took the "difficult" choice to scale back their workforce by almost fifty percent this year in April, writing to employees, "To find its role in the world, the product needs to evolve." This necessitates a period of transition."
The app has now officially made a comeback. According to the founders, the new Clubhouse is more like a chat app than before. The most significant change is "Chats", a new voice-only chat platform for users and their friends.
What exactly does this resemble? Group voice chats can now be restricted to "friends only" or "friends-of-friends," as opposed to anonymous chat rooms with larger memberships. In addition, unlike WhatsApp group conversations, the Clubhouse user experience is more colourful and personable, which is likely to be a significant selling feature. Other minor changes have been made to the programme, and some old functionality have been removed.
Notably, live rooms will remain a feature of the app. Clubhouse, on the other hand, looks to be evolving to a more intimate social arrangement, favouring friends and personal discussions over communities. For example, the algorithm will place a higher value on friends.
"The new update is a big evolution of Clubhouse. Designed to let you talk with your favorite people more easily, every time you open the app", the statement of the social app reads.
Clubhouse has now been updated on iOS and Android.
