Thorsten Achenbach has been appointed as director digital and global solutions at the BMW IT Hub in Menlyn Maine, Pretoria, by BMW Group South Africa. The appointment took effect on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Klaus von der Osten-Sacken is succeeded by Achenbach.
Before joining the BMW Group, Achenbach worked for a number of international companies in New York, Japan, France, China, and Germany, according to the company. He received his education in Germany and holds degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration.
Achenbach joined the BMW Group in 2011 and held various executive positions within BMW Group IT and the IT Industry. He managed a multi-project programme, which included three main departments: engineering, production and procurement. His most recent position was vice president IT, engineering and quality.
On his appointment, Achenbach says, "I am very excited to be in South Africa and look forward to joining hands with the local team to make the BMW IT Hub an industry leader."
Peter van Binsbergen, CEO of BMW Group South Africa, concludes, "I am pleased to welcome Achenbach in his new role at the BMW IT Hub. Achenbach brings a vast portfolio and proven track record of excellence, particularly in the IT field, and we look forward to the continued success of the BMW IT Hub."
