The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to train 1000 employees in cyber security, eGovernment, and 5G technologies in collaboration with Huawei Technologies. After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ICT Industry Leader, the arrangement was confirmed.
This is part of its ICT for Change Program in which it seeks to train and empower 1,000 Federal Civil Servants across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
In addition, the government has implemented an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution aimed at digitizing records and automating workflow operations to enhance information sharing and collaboration across ministries, departments, and agencies.
While signing the agreement in Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha stated that the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic had disrupted the health of global economies and brought with it new ways of conducting business, including government transactions.
He said that the Government is also taking advantage of the rise in technological pursuits in science and technology, and that the Nigerian model Civil Service hasn’t been any different. The Nigerian Civil Service recognises the role of technology in its ongoing transformation.
“In this regard, the creation of an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution was one of the eight themes of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan. It was thought up as a way to digitise records and automate workflow processes to improve information sharing and collaboration across the MDAs.”
People who work in the government’s civil service office have already tried this out, and he confirmed it’s being rolled out to all of the government’s other offices as well.
