Microsoft is dolling its employee a $1,500 pandemic bonus. The software company says it wants to recognise with its staff the unique and challenging fiscal year it just completed.
According to the company’s chief people officer, Kathleen Hogan, all qualified workers in both the US and universally are beneficiaries of this gift. While announcing to all the employees today, he said the bonus will be to all staff below corporate vice president level that started on or before March 31st, 2021, including part-time workers and those on hourly rates.
Microsoft has about 175,508 employees around the world, however the staff at LinkedIn, GitHub, and ZeniMax are not qualified for the bonus, even though Microsoft owns these three separate organisations. However, the Verge, which claims to see an internal memo containing this announcement, thinks that it’s a gift of around $200 million, or less than two days’ worth of profit for Microsoft.
Employees of top organisations such as Facebook and Amazon have also received similar gifts in the past. Facebook gave out $1,000 each to 45,000 employees and Amazon, $300 holiday bonus to frontline workers.
