The Director of Procurement, Nigeria Federal Ministry of Power, Eng. Ahmed Abdu has described Nigeria’s current power generation capacity as impressive. He made this submission at the ongoing Power Nigeria Exhibition and Conference holding at the Landmark Centre, Lagos.
Riding on the platform of Nigeria’s recently instituted efforts to reform the legal, organizational and institutional frameworks for public procurement, Power Nigeria 2019 brought together industry experts from the Ministry of Power, Dangote Industries, Cummins, Tranos and AKW Engineering to explore how procurement within the power sector could become more efficient. They discussed elements of effective procurement strategies, requirements and best practices within the sector while highlighting how procurement has become an increasingly important factor in boosting Nigeria’s economic viability,
Speaking at the Conference, the Director of Procurement, Nigeria Federal Ministry of Power, Ahmed Abdu, said “it is indeed unfortunate that the power sector was neglected in the past, however, when the negative effects of this became evident, the government re-strategized, creating a momentum for improvement in the sector. Investment in the procurement process of the sector has impacted projects in the industry. Our current power generation capacity is impressive, with a distribution network of 5,000 Megawatts and a transmission network of the 7,000 Megawatts of electricity. This I will highlight, is as a result of a well-drawn out strategy to boost procurement implementation within the power sector.”
Also speaking at the conference, Head of Energy Strategy, Dangote Industries, Damole Omole said, “Energy strategy is built around energy efficiencies and this is part of our response as stakeholders, to the challenge of moving Nigeria to a more sustainable model for energy production and consumption. The Nigerian power sector requires investment, technical changes and policy dialogues to promote efficiencies. With an integrated view of reducing energy consumption whilst ensuring efficient energy production, the scope of the Nigerian energy strategy will be defined in such a way that the focus on energy generation, distribution and transmission will promote sustainability in the use of energy.”
Power Nigeria exists to serve the West African and Nigerian energy market. The event is reputable for setting itself as an annual hub for suppliers to meet buyers, driving the energy markets in Nigeria forward. The international brand status combined with local knowledge & stakeholder partnerships results in making Power Nigeria a must-attend event for all energy industry professionals.
