MultiChoice has condemned the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa.
In a statement issued by Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice Group CEO, the company reaffirmed its commitment to uniting Africans through our programming and cultural initiatives.
“MultiChoice is committed to uniting Africans through our programming and cultural initiatives. We advocate equality and condemn all forms of discrimination. The on-going violence in South Africa against foreign nationals, is against the spirit of Africa, and counter-productive to the decades of work done by African leaders and well-meaning organisations to unite the continent" said Calvo Mawela, MultiChoice Group CEO.
"We are a proudly African company and although our story began in South Africa, today we represent the African continent in all its diversity through our presence across the region.We embrace and celebrate the diversity of varied nationalities, traditions, cultures and religions from across the continent and beyond. As the situation intensifies between foreign nationals and locals in most parts of Gauteng, Nigerians have launched a revolt against what is being termed as xenophobic attacks, and are calling on the infamous terrorist group, Boko Haram, to “unleash revenge in South Africa.”
The protests this week are a continuation of the violence that broke out in Pretoria CBD last week, when taxi drivers took to the streets, in reaction to the news of the death of a fellow driver who was allegedly killed by Nigerian drug dealers.
Oby Ezekwesili in a Tweet to government of South Africa reads: "Dear President @CyrilRamaphosa and @GovernmentZA , the maiming and killing of citizens of Nigeria and other African countries in South Africa dishonors everything our collective fight for freedom was about. Even as children in Primary School, we played our part. Please STOP IT."
