Fifa Upholds Chelsea Transfer Ban, Club Heads to CAS

English Premier League club Chelsea has suffered a major blow, after football’s global governing body FIFA chose to uphold the club's transfer ban that was imposed in March.

Chelsea was found guilty of breaching rules relating to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18, with Fifa issuing the club with a ban on signing players for two transfer windows.

Chelsea's last option is to head to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for one final attempt to overturn the decision, which can have serious consequences to the club.

FIFA banned Chelsea from signing new players for two windows through to January 2020, after they were found to have breached some regulations in signing new players, mainly under 18 years.

In a statement today, Chelsea said it is “very disappointed” that the transfer ban of two consecutive registration periods was not overturned.

The statement added: “Chelsea FC categorically refutes the findings of the Fifa Appeal Committee. It acted in accordance with the relevant regulations and will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”
