Guinness Nigeria Restates Commitment to Safety; Says No Life Lost to Fire Incident at Aba Plant

Guinness Nigeria has restated its commitment to ensuring the health and safety of its employees and communities where it operates.

In a statement issued by the company's Director of Corporate Relations, Mrs Viola Graham-Douglas, following the fire outbreak at its Aba Logistics centre on Friday, confirmed that on the 18th of January 2019 there was a fire outbreak at the Aba premises of Guinness Nigeria Plc located in Osisioma Industrial Layout. "The fire, which did not affect any of the buildings on site, was swiftly contained and put under control by men of the Aba Fire Service Department with assistance from neighbouring companies", she said.

"Fortunately, there were no injuries or major material loss resulting from the incident as the Aba premises currently serves as a logistics centre with few personnel on site.  Our major production operations take place in our Benin and Ogba Breweries.

"As we continue to investigate the cause of the fire incident, we say a very big thank you to the Aba Fire Service and Police Departments as well as the community and neighbouring companies for their swift response and assistance in containing the fire.  We also thank everyone who was supportive and reached out to us during the incident", Graham-Douglas said.

She stressed that "Guinness Nigeria remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the communities where we operate and will continue to maintain this standard".
