Empower 54 Extends Health Initiative to 620,000 Children in Congo

Empower 54, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the eradication of malnutrition in Africa, has embarked on free medication to 620,000 children in the Province du Mai-Ndombe, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.



The medication being distributed in 14 towns in the region includes Albendazole, which is used for the treatment of worms and related diseases and Vitamin A, which prevents malnutrition, eye health and other developmental health in children.

According to the President and Executive Director of Empower 54, Princess Modupe Ozolua, the initiative would be extended to other African countries and states in Nigeria.

She said the organisation is embarking on the initiative because of its passion in enhancing the health of children and women in Africa.

The free medication follows the successful completion of similar health programme in Edo State where 15,000 women and children benefited.

During that medical outreach programme, Empower54 partnered with traditional rulers and local government council chairmen in distributing free medication in Owan West, Owan East, Etsako and Akoko-Edo Local Government Areas of the state.

The medications were Albendazol for children between the ages of six months to five years and prenatal vitamins for pregnant women.

Empower 54, which is based in the United States, has been providing humanitarian assistance since 2003 through initiatives in health, education, empowerment of internally displaced persons /refugee programmes for underprivileged Africans.
