Welcome to the future! Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be playing a significant role in global security. As China prepare to lead the world to the AI in 2025, China has announced that it will build an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered police station.
At the AI police station planned to be built, services are planned to be provided to residents, mainly by registering license and reporting lost property.
The police station will be built in Wuhan Province in partnership with Wuhan Public Security Bureau Traffic Management Bureau. This means visitors to the police station will deal with machines instead of humans.
Although regarded as a police station, it seems to be designed with driver and vehicle-related matters in mind thus making it more like a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) rather than a police station. Some of the services it will provide include driver’s examinations, registration services, and feature advanced face-scanning technology developed by Tencent. As such, visitors do not need physical Identity Cards to use the police station. After entering the unmanned police station, there is equipment to regulate the police within the environment.
Although this is quite innovative, there is still a long way to go in developing a fully AI-powered police station but this is obviously a milestone and it will convince many from different parts of the world to take China serious on its plan to become the world leader in AI-which it aims to grow to over 150 billion yuan ($22.15 billion) by 2020 and 400 billion yuan ($59.07 billion) by 2025.
