Lagos NIPR to discuss Challenges of Quality Education in Nigeria at 4th Stakeholders Conference

The Lagos State Chapter, the flagship branch of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR); the umbrella body of professional Public Relations practitioners chartered to regulate as well as direct its development and the practice, Wednesday announced that the fourth Lagos NIPR Stakeholders' Conference will deliberate on the challenges dogging quality education in Nigeria.

This edition of the Conference; a bridge-building initiative to interact and proffer solutions to the socio, political and economic challenges plaguing our nation, with the theme: Media, Communication and the Challenge of Quality Education for National Development, will hold at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos on Tuesday August 29, 2017.


The Founder, Silverbird Group and Lawmaker, representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Bayelsa State, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, is expected to deliver the conference lecture. Other eminent presenters expected include the Minster of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who will be speaking on the paper: Strategies for Revamping Nigeria's Educational System for National Development; and the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is also expected to deliver a paper on: Bridging the Nation's Education Gap in the 21st Century. The Chairman, Governing Board, First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, is expected to chair the session.

Speaking on the event, the Chairman of Lagos NIPR, Mr. Olusegun McMedal explained that this year's Conference will engage key stakeholders including decision makers in government, corporate organisations, heads of educational institutions, media and communication practitioners for better perspectives and strategies to enhance the quality of education in the country.

According to him, 'Building on the success of the previous three editions, this conference will climax with the Stakeholders& Sponsors Recognitions. This will recognize selected individuals and organizations that have greatly contributed to the development of the Nigeria's education sector over the years. It will also celebrate sponsors for supporting the call for the development of the country's education system.'

The annual Lagos NIPR Stakeholders' Conference has evolved over the years to become a bridge-building talk-shop for stakeholders to interact, discuss and proffer solutions to the socio, political and economic challenges plaguing our nation.

It is worthy of note that the first edition of the Conference in 2014, was chaired by the President, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON, while the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Mr. Babatunde Fashola SAN, delivered the keynote address.

The second edition with the theme: The Nigerian Consumer; Rights Duties and Obligation, engaged head of key regulatory agencies in the country that included; Consumer Protection Council (CPC), Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Lagos State Ministry of Commerce and Industry and selected consumer interest groups.

The third edition with the theme: Achieving the Right Policy Mix for Sustainable Foreign Direct Investment Generation in Nigeria, had leading communication practitioners in attendance.

This conference is expected to come up with a communiqué that will help to enhance the standard and quality of education in the country.
