In a official tweet recognising the fit, Twitter tweeted: Today, we #WITNESS history. Congratulations @katyperry, the first to reach 100 million followers! #LoveKaty
Canadian singer Justin Bieber is trailing Perry on Twitter with just under 97 million followers, while Taylor Swift has 85 million. Barack Obama (90.8 million), Taylor Swift (85.1 million) and Rihanna (74.1 million) make the top five list of highest followers on the microblog.
