Classroom To Boardroom Holds Employability Masterclass in Lagos

Classroom to Boardroom (CR2BR) an initiative of MML Consulting held a 1-day Employability Masterclass on the 29th of May 2017 in Lekki Lagos.

The aim of CR2BR is to bridge the gap between school and work equipping Nigerian graduates with basic skills and strategies needed to be top talent to be recruited and top performers in their career while providing them with professional guidelines on building an employable professional profile, effective business writing and a winning personal brand.

Speaking about the event, one of the Employability Masterclass participants said that “I am glad to have been a part of this programme; I now have a good knowledge of business communication and what prospective employers expect from me, all thanks to the CR2BR Initiative.”

Also speaking about the master-class is Uche Lotanna-Anajemba, Chief host and convener of the CR2BR Initiative,

‘’We realized that one of the major causes of unemployment in our graduates in Nigeria is a dearth of basic work place skills because of non-exposure to technology or internship during the years of education. Almost all the Nigerian graduates have no prior work experience and with organisations cutting training budgets, it becomes increasingly difficult to hire greenhorns.  Our mission at CR2BR is to bridge this gap between school and work and we have put together several tools needed to effectively train and prepare them for the workplace. Through this program, we hope that we will be able to reduce the unemployment rate in the country as participants will be empowered with knowledge and new skills to compete for existing job opportunities. This initiative is also a response to the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) 8 to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth through full and productive employment /decent work for all”.

The participants of the master-class had the opportunity to gain professional knowledge from experienced experts in communication and business. Mrs Chioma Afe, Divisional Head Corporate Communications, Diamond Bank spoke to the participants about effective business communications with an emphasis on writing cover letters and emails while Tampiri Irimagha-Akemu, Managing Director, Sesema PR delivered an engaging lecture on the power of Personal Branding and Tola Oloyede head of HR projects for Halliburton SSA showed the participants how to write a winning CV and get that interview. The top 5 interns pitched for a chance to intern at some of the leading organisations in Lagos.
