The competition is a platform for teenagers to exhibit their cycling skills and encourage more teens to take up regular cycling. This will enable them grow into fit, healthy and successful adults with longer life expectancy.
The event which holds on Friday June 23, 2017 is for 80 male and female participants with about 500 spectators and officials expected. Venue is The Bells Secondary School, Ota, Ogun State holding from 9am – 4pm. The choice of Bells for the competition is its unique landscape. Designed as an annual event for private secondary schools in Ogun State, registration is free. The Ogun State Cycling Association are technical partners for this project and will officiate the competition. Various local and international companies have expressed interest in sponsoring the one-day event.
Cycling is a universally-popular sport for everyone. It has enjoyed resurgent growth in recent years due to increasing public awareness about its many health and wellness benefits. All over the globe, young people are being encouraged to adopt regular cycling as a recreation/sport that delivers sustainable fitness and long-term wellness.
The African Cycling Foundation (ACF) is a social enterprise that aims to transform lives via the bicycle. It is focused on enabling people change their circumstances and optimize their potentials by providing mobility. It also seeks to promote safe and regular cycling as a means of achieving sustainable wellness for all and improved academic performance for young people. The foundation is engaged in robust advocacy for the establishment of a safe and conducive environment for cycling in both urban and rural areas of Nigeria and Africa.
