South African-based pay-TV network, SuperSport is keeping its rights to show live English Premier League (EPL) football matches on MultiChoice's DStv in South Africa, Nigeria as well as elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa, extending its contract ending 2018-19 season for the period of three-season - from 2019-20 to 2021-22 campaign.
SuperSport will broadcast all 380 Premier League matches per season live on all distribution systems, including television, internet and mobile. The broadcaster said it sealed the renewal following a “competitive” tender process.
Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore said: “We are extremely pleased that SuperSport - our longest serving international partner - has again invested in the rights to broadcast the Premier League and will remain with us until the end of the 2021-22 season.
“Under the new agreement, we look forward to enhanced broadcast and promotional commitments, as well as access to an expansive network of Naspers companies to further develop our presence across Africa.”
SuperSport is a South African group of television channels owned by Multichoice and carried on the DStv satellite platform. It provides sports content in sub-Sahara Africa.
