BlackBerry debuts second Android smartphone - the DTEK60

• May be its final in-house phone

BlackBerry released on Tuesday its second smartphone designed and built externally, the latest development in the company's push away from manufacturing handsets as it focuses more on its security software.

The DTEK60 is another premium Blackberry Android device, just like the Priv. It's the first BB phone to pack a fingerprint sensor, as well as the kind of features usually found on other flagship mobiles.

Now available in eight countries: Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, the U.K., and the U.S.


The DTEK60 features a 5.5-inch QuadHD (2560x1440px) display. The phone appears similar to the Alcatel Idol 4S, however, packs in far better specifications. The 165g device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and has 4GB RAM, 32GB of storage (expandable up to 2TB via microSD), a 3000 mAh battery, a 21MP rear-facing camera, and an 8MP front-facing flash camera. It comes with 32GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 2TB using a microSD card.

Unlike its predecessor, the DTEK60 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Considering it is a high-end smartphone, the fingerprint sensor was expected. The phone sports a 21-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel camera on the front.
