Eskimi social network has become the tenth most popular site in Nigeria, by traffic. This follows the addition of News and content to the site’s social offering, reaching an impressive 9, 5 million Users in Nigeria and 21 million worldwide.
CEO Vytas Paukstys noted “Alexa metrics focus on the traffic from our mobile site, m.eskimi.com. The growth indicates that there is still a strong base in mobile web, despite the general trend towards app usage. One key reason for this growth is the market’s continued consumption of basic (feature) phones, which do not support apps. Our strategy continues to focus on these consumers, who represent 60% of the Nigerian market. 40% of our users are using their smartphones to access the site via mobile web or apps.”
It is also worth noting that another Eskimi media platform – Eskimi DSP, a programmatic ad platform, serves ads to these consumers, who browse on ‘small’ phones. This ‘quiet majority’ of the online community are not reached by the larger ad networks, who tend to focus on deploying ads to smartphone users.
