UBA denies involvement in Turkey coup attempt

An attempt to link United Bank for Africa (UBA) to the failed coup attempt in Turkey has been completely rebuffed by the bank. Yenisafak, a Turkish newspaper, has alleged that UBA played a key role in the distribution of funds for the facilitation of the failed coup.

However, the bank has categorically deflated such rumour and denied its involvement in any way. According to Charles Aigbe, Head of Communication, UBA in a public statement, “UBA is aware of the on-going and spurious media speculation linking our institution to recent events in Turkey. In light of this we believe it is necessary to categorically state that UBA has no involvement in or connection to these accusations, which are clearly false.”

The media report has it that the funds used to prosecute the July 15 coup attempt was channeled through UBA in Nigeria, using CIA links.

He maintains the Bank resolve to delivering on its strategy to build Africa economy. “We remain focused and firmly committed to delivering on our strategy to build Africa’s premier banking institution,” he said
