US internet company Yahoo has agreed a global media partnership with German Bundesliga football club Bayern Munich.
The deal was announced on Monday. It follows earlier deals for the club with MSN, Univision and Goal. Editorial and video content from the reigning Bundesliga champions will be syndicated through Yahoo, with a focus on audiences in the U.S., Latin America and Central Europe.
The partnership will include the syndication of Bayern’s editorial and video content for programming in English, Spanish and German, across Yahoo Sports.
In addition, Yahoo will also provide original FC Bayern content to its audience, such as player interviews and features. The content will be available across Yahoo’s English, Spanish and German-language platforms.
Dr. Gunther Picker, Head of Editorial EMEA, Yahoo, said: “Soccer is a huge focus for Yahoo. With FC Bayern Munich, we were able to get one of the most internationally-renowned sports teams on board, and through this partnership, we are able to expand our premium content offering.”
Picker in a recently report revealed that “across the world, soccer is one of Yahoo’s most-searched-for topics, and in Europe, soccer regularly generates over half of our page views on Yahoo Sports."
