LagosPhoto Festival Opens October 24

Nigeria’s foremost and sole international arts festival of photography, LagosPhoto Festival, has concluded arrangements to host the sixth edition of the highly acclaimed event between October 24 and November 27, 2015.

Activities lined up for the month-long programme include exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, discussions, screening, and large scale outdoor installations in congested public spaces in Lagos.

A number of satellite exhibition venues have been outlined, including Omenka Gallery, Africans Artists’ Foundation, Stranger Lagos, Goethe-Institut, White Space, YABATECH, Quintessence, Muri Okunola Park and Falomo Roundabout. Others are Beko Ransome Kuti Park, Awojobi Park, Freedom Park, MKO Abiola Park and Dolphin Park all in Lagos state.

In a statement by its organisers, LagosPhoto seeks to provide a veritable platform for the development and education of contemporary photography in Africa by establishing mentorships and cross-cultural collaborations with local and international artists.

“LagosPhoto presents photography as it is embodied in the exploration of historical and contemporary issues, the promotion of social programmes, and the reclaiming of public spaces,” it said. The event will feature no fewer than thirty-five professional photographers from eighteen countries.

The programme tagged Designing Futures, is set to create mutually beneficial conversations around photography and explore contemporary dialogues surrounding designs in Africa. “In a continent whose design history includes the Benin Bronzes, Adinkra, and some of the oldest writing systems known to man, deference to these feats are acknowledged in the rich and sometimes frugally chic designs we see today,” the organisers said.
