Glo Celebrates Onitsha Age Groups at Ofala

Telecom company and sponsor of Ofala festival of Onitsha, Globacom, has celebrated the different age groups of the community with different prizes at the just concluded 2015 edition of the ceremony.

The company presented prizes to all the top three winners in the age-grade dance competitions at a colourful royal banquet it organised in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, at the Mulumba Place, Onitsha.

Globacom presented gifts to be the Aghaedo age grade which came third in the age group of 50 years and below; the Ifechukwulu age group and the Ani Amaka age group which came second and first respectively.

The best carnival float was won by Agbalanze, while the second and third positions went to Otu-Odu and Ichie respectively.

In the age grade of 50-60 years, Nwanuebife came first while the second and third positions were taken by Anyibuofo and Ado Amaka respectively. Ife Nkili came first in the age grade of 60 years and above, Officer age grade came second, while Nkolika age group came third.

Igwe Achebe also at the banquet praised Globacom for its involvement in the festival.


He commended the company for raising the profile of Ofala, saying that the partnership with the telecoms operator five years ago had led to increased visibility for the festival and attracted significant growth to the festival both in scope and content.

Achebe added that the relationship between Globacom and the Ofala Festival Organising Committee had been a worthwhile venture, adding that Ofala was increasingly becoming a global tourist attraction.

He expressed gratitude to the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr. whom he described as “a man with uncommon passion for anything he believes in.”
