Airtel promotes culture, unity as Banana Island hosts cultural Festival 2015

The cosmopolitan nature of Banana Island, a high-end mixed-use development located in Ikoyi, Lagos came alive recently as leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria, in conjunction with other sponsors backed the 2015 Banana Island Cultural Festival.

Families, friends and guests of Banana Island residents were treated to mellifluous music, great- tasting intercontinental cuisines and beautiful works of art at the colourful event.

The Banana Island Cultural Festival is a yearly occasion that avails residents in the estate to know one another and also come together to celebrate their cultural diversity of the estate.

On Saturday, October 3rd, residents of the estate from India, France, Egypt, Kenya, Senegal, South-Africa, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Morocco, Tunisia, Jamaica, Nigeria among others represented their individual countries and also showcased their rich culture through the unique dressing, cuisine and music at this year’s Banana Island Cultural Festival.

Each country represented at the event was assigned a booth to display their food, traditional attires, accessories, artwork and other items.


The smartphone network, Airtel Nigeria, also showcased it offerings at the event. The highpoint of the occasion was raffle draws conducted by Airtel Brand Ambassador, Ik Osakioduwa. Some of participants won Airtel devices and other giveaways such as bicycles, microwave, return ticket to United Kingdom and other gifts donated by other sponsors.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya; Chairman, Banana Island Property Owners/Residents’ Association (BIPORAL), Mr. Chudi Ubosi including former Presidential Adviser on National Assembly Matters, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa were also spotted at the event.

Airtel brand Ambassador, Bowoto Jephta a.k.a Akpororo spent few minutes to thrill the guests and kids. The occasion also provided the various countries to parade their attires, dances and also to learn about other cultures.
