GOtv Boxing: Fijabi Bags N1m cash prize

Olaide Fijabi who recently emerged as the best boxer of the 3rd GOtv Boxing Night after beating Kazeem Ariyo in their light welterweight contest in the six-bout competition at the National Stadium in Lagos.

Fijabi, who was voted as the best boxer at the second edition of the competition earlier in the year, also went home with the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy recently.

From the first round, Fijabi, who was making his second professional outing, overwhelmed his opponent with deft combinations that left the huge crowd screaming his name. Ariyo, a decent boxer in his own right, however, found Fijabi too hot to handle.

The lightweight challenge bout between Nurudeen Fatai and Chibuzor Obi ended in the latter’s favour by unanimous decision. Sunday Ajuwa also defeated Femi Ajayi in an eight-round cruiser weight challenge.

In the heavyweight division, Onoriode Ehwarieme knocked out Adewale Masebinu in the second of their six-round challenge bout. Masebinu was rescued when his trainer threw in the towel in the two minutes into the second round.

Nigerian boxer, Helen Johnson also defeated Ghana’s Gifty Ankrah by unanimous decision in their international women’s bout.
