Blatter reiterates FIFA support of Russia 2018 World Cup

As against speculation about the possibility of depriving Russia of the World Cup due to the recent corruption scandal in FIFA has fueled, FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has reiterated that FIFA remains committed to 2018 World Cup host nation Russia.

In a meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin on Saturday, Blatter has said world football’s governing body has passed a resolution offering its full backing to Russia’s staging of the 2018 World Cup amid ongoing investigations into the bidding process for the tournament and cut-backs in preparations for the event.

Blatter made Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifying draw in St Petersburg his first major public event since American and Swiss criminal investigations of corruption in world football were unsealed two months ago. He held a meeting with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin ahead of the draw.

“I would like to inform you that the executive committee has recently adopted a new resolution in which Fifa assures the Russian Federation of its full support in carrying out the World Cup in Russia in 2018,” Blatter said at the meeting, according to the Reuters news agency.

The matches of the World cup will be held between June 14 and July 15 2018 at 12 stadiums located across Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Samara.
