‘Danny Welbeck Is Worth More Than Gerard Pique, Marco Reus’…Do You Agree?

Despite scoring just eight goals last season, Arsenal and England striker Danny Welbeck is worth almost £10million more than what Arsene Wenger paid for him in August.

Welbeck is now worth between €32.1m-€35.3m (£23.55m-£25.9m), more than the likes of team-mates Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, Manchester United's Juan Mata and Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus, according to the findings of the Swiss sports statisticians at the CIES Football Observatory.

Wenger spent £16m to bring the striker to the Emirates from Manchester United at the start of the year and although he initially performed well, as soon as Olivier Giroud returned to fitness he struggled to make the starting XI. He started 27 matches and eventually scored eight goals in all competitions.

Giroud, who scored 19 goals for Arsenal last season, is ranked 26 places below Welbeck, valued at €25.4m-€27.9m (£18.64m-£20.47m).

It may also shock a few that unhappy Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling  is more valuable than the likes of Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and James Rodriguez…

Top of the most valuable players on planet list is the unassailable Lionel Messi, who is labelled at a top price of £206million – while Chelsea ace Eden Hazard, valued at £109million, slips in ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, worth a paltry £92m. Apart from those three, only Barcelona star Neymar, said to be worth £72m is ahead of Aguero, making him the fifth dearest player.

Age was taken into account when the data was collated so perhaps Ronaldo conceding six years to the Belgian has something to do with the rankings.
