For Real... US President Barack Obama joins Twitter

With a tweet from the Oval Office, US President Barack Obama launched @POTUS, the official Twitter account of the President of the United States.

This is coming after six years in the White House.

"Hello, Twitter! It's Barack. Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account.", he tweeted around 10:38am yesterday, 18 May 2015.

When BrandArena checked out the handle, the first Black American President in his first tweet had 246,193 retweets, 333,942 favourites and garnered over 1.86 Million followers.

According to a statement on www.whitehouse.gov, "the @POTUS Twitter account will serve as a new way for President Obama to engage directly with the American people, with tweets coming exclusively from him. President Obama is committed to making his Administration the most open and participatory in history, and @POTUS will give Americans a new venue to engage on the issues that matter most to them".
