Returning to the Consumer Electronics Show for the first time in three years, Kodak a giant player in the camera business, has extended its innovation to produce its first ever mobile phone — the Kodak IM5.The Kodak phone has a 13 MP main camera in the back, and a 5 MP shooter in the front. Both seemed to do admirably in the tough lighting conditions presented by the conference hall — specifically the front-facing one — but the images paled in comparison to what I could reproduce with my iPhone.
Speaking of hardware, the EUR 299 or $249-priced Kodak IM5 comes with a 5-inch 720p IPS touchscreen panel. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software and works with a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek processor (definitely a MediaTek MT6592 chipset) paired with 1GB of RAM.
Kodak used a 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front camera unit to deliver the “best-in-class image management software and features.” The device features a dual SIM slot, A-GPS, Bluetooth, 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.
“Too many memories stay stuck on mobile phones, often because the process for sharing them is too complicated for users; that’s why we’ve partnered on the IM5, the first device in a range of mobile products that takes our heritage and experience in photographic technology and combines it with Bullitt’s expertise in designing high-quality devices for a specific target consumer,” Eileen Murphy, a spokesman for Kodak explained.
