Sony drops Aaron Sorkin's Steve Jobs movie, Universal rumoured to take over

Sony Pictures who has been developing the movie for two years, has reportedly dropped the film as it is about to wrap up casting and enter production.

Although it is presently unclear why Sony drop the project but according to The Hollywood Reporter, one reason Sony might've dropped the film was due to the shooting schedule.

Aaron Sorkin‘s Steve Jobs biopic script has attracted a lot of attention from the likes of David Fincher, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Seth Rogen, Jessica Chastain, and most recently Michael Fassbender.

Deadline reports that Universal Studios is keen on picking up the movie by tomorrow. So fear not, the project will likely live to see another day and hopefully secure a cast in the near future. It is rare for a well-known project to be dropped by a studio and made available for rival studios to purchase.

Based on Walter Isaacson's biography, it recruited Aaron Sorkin to pen the screenplay for the film, and the idea was to reunite him with his The Social Network director, David Fincher.

Sorkin’s script is comprised of just three scenes with a snapshot of Jobs at three major product launches: the Mac (1984), NeXT (1988), and the iPod (2001).

The film, an adaptation of the bestselling Walter Isaacson biography, has Slumdog Millionaire‘s Danny Boyle set to direct, with Michael Fassbender recently courted to play Jobs.

The film is produced by Scott Rudin, Christian Colson, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady.
