Suzuki said in a statement: “Through MotoGP racing, Suzuki will develop more attractive products by giving technical feedback to the products, as well as improve the brand image.”
Earlier this month, Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM unveiled a plan to rejoin MotoGP, with the company looking to enter the championship’s grid for the 2017 season. Suzuki will join Honda, Yamaha, Ducati and Aprilia as a MotoGP manufacturer. Italian motorcycle company Aprilia recently announced that it would enter the 2015 world championship, one year ahead of its initial schedule.
Suzuki will give fans an early glimpse of its GSX-RR machine by competing as a wild card entry at this season’s final race in Valencia, Spain on November 9, before its full return in 2015. Spaniards Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales have been confirmed as its riders. Espargaro (pictured) is currently competing in the elite MotoGP class, while 19-year-old Vinales will make the step up after one season in Moto2.
The Suzuki factory squad will compete in the Open class, like Ducati’s four entries are this year, although the Japanese bikes will compete with the control Magneti Marelli electronic engine control hardware mandated under the regulations.
