JUMIA is supporting the “Crépu d’Ebène” (Ebony Frizz) Natural Festival organised by Nappys de Babi on Saturday 16th August at the CEREO premises (2 plateaux Aghien) from 8am to 10pm.
The “Crépu d’Ebène” festival will aim to celebrate natural beauty and frizzy hair: the Nappy attitude! Nappy is an English neologism combining the words “natural” and “happy”: being Nappy means being happy with your natural appearance. Nappys de Babi is a local movement, taking its name from this word and from the popular term for Abidjan. JUMIA will be present at the event in order to celebrate African beauty and the Nappy phenomenon, which chooses to banish the tyranny of smooth hair, wigs and extensions and instead to return to hair basics. The Nappy woman embraces her frizzy hair and likes taking care of it. Because frizzy hair is dry and fragile, it is essential to look after it and hydrate it daily with the right products!
Black women often have a lot of questions about their hair. The “Crépu d’Ebène” event aims to answer these questions, through conferences with haircare experts such as Mme Fenouil, a biologist-inventor who specialises in hair, and Ze Bi Fleur, head of the haircare centre Feymie’s HCC. According to Mariam Diaby, founder of the Nappys de Babi movement and organiser of the event: “this will be a good opportunity to share ideas not only with fellow participants, but also with experts from the beauty world, and to have answers to the questions that we often ask ourselves.
Three practical workshops on how to maintain and style hair are also on the programme, to help Nappys to plan a routine, make their own beauty products and style their frizzy hair.
Attendees will also enjoy several other activities, including shows and even a hairstyling contest, as well as an exhibition with several stands selling haircare products from various local and regional producers, plus national and international brands. JUMIA has also brought together an array of “nappy-friendly” products for those who want to take care of their frizzy hair. The products will be available at the event but also online, in the Coin des Nappys (Nappy Corner), designed entirely for the benefit of frizzy hair. Fatoumata Ba, CEO of JUMIA Ivory Coast, will talk about her idea of natural beauty and about the evolution of the Nappy movement through the internet and what it means for Nappy women. Specifically, they now have the possibility of finding new and better products online, and can also find new people promoting the same causes all over the world.
Before the close of the festival, there will be a prize draw to win a private dinner with the partners of the event, which will take place at Restaurant Lounge le Solarino in Angré.
