Sanaa Africa Festival celebrates the spirit of Africa

The annual SANAA Africa Arts Festival, in association with the MTN SA Foundation, is set to take place at Moyo’s Zoo Lake from 21-24 May 2014.

Now in its fifth year, the festival celebrates the spirit of Africa through entertainment. With May being the month in which the continent celebrates Africa Day, the festival provides a platform to be part of the celebrations by hosting the most entertaining, fun-filled experience in Africa and showcasing Africa’s creative industries.

Themed 'Connect, Collaborate, and Celebrate: Creating from our Heritage', the fifth Sanaa Africa Festival is set to take place at Moyo's Zoo Lake from 21-24 May 2014.

“This year’s SANAA Africa Arts Festival celebrates the spirit of Africa through artistic expression across the full spectrum of creativity; the ethos behind our programme selections for this year stays in touch with our heritage, but also moves rapidly into the ‘melting pot’ of cultures within the 21st Century and beyond. We hope to stimulate conversations and debate around the value of arts and culture for society at large, its lucrative business potential, and also offer a glimpse on the riches of the continent as offered by the festival,” explains Nonhlanha Matshazi, founder and director of the SANAA Africa Arts Festival.

“We are looking forward to this year’s line-up. It looks exciting and enticing. It definitely captures the spirit and energy that we wanted to enhance when we decided to support the Sanaa festival. MTN SA Foundation believes in a holistic approach and encourage all forms of entrepreneurial development through education, health and investment in the arts.” said Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, General Manager – MTN SA Foundation.

SANAA Africa is a yearly four-day long cultural festival recognised by the City of Joburg as the official Africa Day celebration. In the spirit of celebration, Africa’s most talented performers and artists will take to Moyo, Zoo Lake in Parkview for a vibrant, one-of-a-kind experience. The idea behind the festivities is to create an event that exposes a cross section of our vastly multicultural continent, ranging from visual art, craft, song, story telling and film.
