NB Golden Pen Award: Entry Deadline Extended

Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced an extension of the closing date for the submission of entries for the 6th Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Award.

The submission of entries which now closes on Saturday, May 31, 2014 became necessary following appeals from some media stakeholders to give opportunity for more deserving journalists to enter for the awards.

The company had earlier announced an expansion of the annual award to encourage the media to draw attention to critical sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The 2014 award will focus on Education and Youth Empowerment and will reward journalists with outstanding published reports in those subject areas.

According to the company, the reports should have been published in Nigeria between January 1 and December 31, 2013. Journalists are expected to submit a maximum of three entries per person to Mediacraft Associates via goldenpen2014@mediacraft.ng or the corporate address on 27a Ramat Crescent, Ogudu GRA, Lagos.

The 6th Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Award will reward ‘The NB Golden Pen Reporter of the Year’ with a special statuette and N1, 000, 000.00, (One million Naira), the ‘First runner up in the NB Golden Pen Reporter of the Year’ category with a Special statuette and N300, 000.00, while the ‘Second runner up NB Golden Pen Reporter of the Year’ will get a Special statuette and N200, 000.00.

‘The NB Golden Pen Photojournalist of the Year’ will get a Special statuette and N300,000.00; the ‘First runner up NB Photojournalist of the Year’ will get a Special statuette and N250, 000.0, while the ‘Second runner up NB Photojournalist of the Year’ will get a Special statuette and N200, 000.00. A Special statuette and N500,000.00 will be awarded for the ‘NB Report of the year’. The award ceremony is scheduled to hold on Monday, June 30, 2014.

The Award criteria of quality, professionalism and objectivity will remain the filters upon which entries will be shortlisted for the awards. The judging panel will analyse the reports and photographs for their originality, news value, use of resources, credibility and factuality. Other areas of interest would include info-graphics, lay out and headline, clarity and social impact.
