Oduye, Goldberg and Goldblum On Tribeca Film Festival Jury

Adepero Oduye

Adepero Oduye, Whoopi Goldberg, Jeff Goldblum and Toni Collette are among the 33 people who will make up their juries for the April 16-27 Tribeca Film Festival.


Adepero Oduye amongst the 2014 Best New Narrative Director Juror of the festival jury announced on Tuesday.

Oduye is one of seven children born to Nigerian parents. She is an Independent Spirit and NAACP Image Award-nominated actress. Credits include Pariah, 12 Years a Slave and the 2012 television adaptation of Steel Magnolias with Alfre Woodard. She debuted on Broadway in the acclaimed revival of The Trip to Bountiful with Cicely Tyson.

The 2014 World Narrative Competition jurors are: Lake Bell (actress, writer, director); Steve Conrad (director, screenwriter of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty); Bart Freundlich (director, screenwriter and producer); Catherine Hardwicke (director of Twilight); and Ben Younger (Independent Spirit Award-winning screenwriter and director).

The 2014 World Documentary Competition jurors are: David Edelstein (movie critic of New York Magazine, NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross and CBS Sunday Morning); Nick Fraser (London-based journalist, independent television producer and program editor); Andrea Meditch (founding president of Back Allie Films whose executive producing credits include Academy Award-winning Man on Wire); Jenni Wolfson (executive director of Chicken & Egg Pictures, which supports women nonfiction filmmakers); and Marina Zenovich (director and producer whose films have screened at Tribeca, Cannes, Sundance, New York, and Toronto film festivals).


The 2014 Best New Narrative Director jurors are: Jeff Goldblum (Academy Award and Emmy Award-nominated actor and director); Nadine Labaki (Lebanese filmmaker and actress named to Variety’s 2008 list of “10 Directors to Watch”); Dorothy Lyman (Emmy Award-winning actress); Adepero Oduye (Independent Spirit and NAACP Image Award-nominated actress); and Mickey Sumner (actress whose film credits include Noah Baumbach’s critically-acclaimed Frances Ha).

The 2014 Best New Documentary Director jurors are: Rebecca Cammisa (Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award-nominated documentary film director, producer and cinematographer); Heather Graham (Independent Spirit Award-nominated actress);  Nate Parker (writer and actor honored as one of Variety’s 2012 “10 Actors to Watch”); Doug Pray (Emmy Award-winning feature documentary film director); and Michael Stuhlbarg (Golden Globe Award-nominated and Independent Spirit Award-winning actor).

The 2014 Narrative Short Film Competition jurors are: Alfonso Arau: (Award-winning Mexican character actor and prominent filmmaker of the Latino community in Hollywood); Whoopi Goldberg (one of an elite group of artists who have won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, and Tony Award); Christine Lahti (an Emmy, Golden Globe and Oscar-winning actress and director of film, television, and theater); Sheila Nevins (President, HBO Documentary Films); and Paul Wesley (director, producer and actor currently starring in The CW’s Vampire Diaries).

The 2014 Documentary and Student Visionary Award Competitions jurors are: Lindsay Burdge (actress, producer and casting director);  Toni Collette (Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress); Regina Dugan (vice president of engineering at Google); Simon Kilmurry (twelve-time Emmy Award and three-time George Foster Peabody Award-winning executive producer); and Anton Yelchin (critically-acclaimed actor with performances in Star Trek and Terminator Salvation).

The 2014 Bombay Sapphire Award for Transmedia jurors are: Paola Antonelli (senior curator of architecture and design at MoMA);  Kira Pollack (director of photography at TIME Magazine and executive producer of Red Border Films); and Caspar Sonnen (curator and festival organizer).

The 2014 Nora Ephron Prize jurors are: Delia Ephron (best-selling author, screenwriter, journalist and playwright); Natasha Lyonne (actress on stage and screen); and Gary Ross (four-time Oscar-nominated writer and director whose credits include The Hunger Games).

They will be divided into the seven competitive categories. The seven festival juries will award $150,000 in cash and prizes. As announced earlier this year, eight of the winners will also receive a work of original art by an acclaimed artist as part of the Tribeca Film Festival Artists Awards program, sponsored by Chanel.
