Barcelona extends Unicef partnership

Spanish Liga football club, Barcelona has agreed a two-year extension of its partnership with the United Nations children’s fund, Unicef.

The current agreement between the two parties was due to expire in 2014, but has now be extended till 2016.

As part of the agreement, Unicef’s logo will continue to appear on the back of Barcelona’s shirt while the club will donate $2.04m a year to the organisation.

Qatar Airways this season took over as Barcelona’s new global partner and main shirt sponsor, with the club receiving €30.5m from the deal in 2013-14.

Barcelona first announced in November 2012 that the airline would take over as the club’s shirt sponsor from the 2013-14 season as part of its agreement with Qatar Sports Investments.

The Qatar Foundation had served as the club’s shirt sponsor for the past two campaigns, succeeding Unicef, which became the first brand to occupy Barcelona’s famous shirts in September 2006.
