Glo, Huawei Sign Network Expansion Deal

Nigerian's telecomm company, Globacom and Chinese firm Huawei have signed a NGN116.25 billion (US$750 million) agreement to expand Globacom’s network capacity.

The company made this known on Thursday in Lagos, at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)on network expansion with Chinese telecoms infrastructure provider, Huawei.

The MoU will see Globacom embarking on a total overhaul of its network to enable it provide better services to its over 25 million telecoms subscribers.

According to the Chief Operating Officer, Muhammed Jameel, Globacom had been shopping for a vendor to help modernise its network over the past two months, and Huawei emerged preferred vendor of choice.

Jameel said every element of the network, ranging from BTS, MSC and transmission infrastructures, among others, will enjoy total modernization to provide world-class services its growing subscriber base.

“This is a huge expansion project. We promise Globacom and its teeming subscribers that we will meet their expectations and deliver a network they will all be proud of. Globacom is definitely going places,” said David Fan, Huawei vice president in West Africa.
