45,000 students sat for NASSMAC first stage exam

About 45,000 junior and senior secondary students sat for the first stage examination of the Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC) across the country last weekend.

Mr. Olusegun Koleoso, Business Development Manager of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, makers of Cowbell Milk, disclosed this in an interview at Oriwu Senior Grammar School, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos, one of the examination centres of the NASSMAC.
According to him we expect about 45, 000 students across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the first stage examination.

“My impression is that the first stage examination is great in terms of logistics, in terms of response and students turn out. You can see the zeal in the students in the way they rushed in the morning to get accredited and they are seated in the exam halls attending to the questions, so it is quite impressive. In terms of our expectation, with respect to numbers in terms and what we have seen in terms of actual turnout, it is quite massive,” Koleoso said.

On the need to increase the number of participating students from each school, he said that would not be difficult for Promasidor but would pose further logistics challenge for it and as a company we can always rise up to that as situation unfolds, adding that when we see the need to increase the number we would do that.

He said at the moment they have about 200 centres across the country out of which Lagos has 20 and because of the way Lagos is configured there is the impression that there are more centres in Lagos than elsewhere. “Practically I know we have more schools in Lagos than elsewhere in Nigeria but if there is a genuine need to increase the number in other states, we would consider it.”
